Boundaries May Not Be the Long-Term Best Solution
Having boundaries is great, but constantly having to assert and reinforce them with the same person will leave you exhausted and hypersensitive.
If this is happening, distance may be a healthier solution for you.
Chronic stress leads to inflammation and stress hormones spiking. Puffiness, irritated skin, joint pain, fatigue, and being short-tempered can be the effects of constantly having to feel hypervigilant around someone for behaviors they've repeated dozens or hundreds of times.
It's hard to create distance when you feel invested and when things seem to be "getting better."
But is "better than awful" actually what you want?
If you're always on guard, you never feel safe. If you never feel safe, you can never relax. You have to be your own protector and advocate, but you also have to know when this means removing yourself from places that cause you mental or emotional harm.
