I don't remember the first time I saw you, or even the day we met. I can't recall staying up all night with you, and I do not know what my first word was. I don't have a clue how many diapers I went through or how many spoons full of baby food entered my mouth. My first steps slip my mind, and potty training, too. I made you laugh? How many times? I haven't the foggiest idea what clothes I wore, or the names of the toys in my bath. I cannot remember any of these things, nor many others as well. I see them only in pictures of a much younger you, and a little face that looks just like mine. I know they must've happened and how important they were, and how each moment was filled with mountains of effort and love. I know they were special, because I see it in your smile when you tell me all about them. Though I have no recollection of one single thing from those early years we spent together, I want you to know they will always be special to me, even though I don't remember.
I love you, Mom.
Happy Mother's Day!
